Finally, some good news to report about the infamous detour on the main roadway through our area:  at noon tomorrow, it’s set to re-open after about a month.

I understand the need to clear away the debris, really I do.  Back in March, a big chunk of rock actually fell on a car, sending five people to the hospital with significant injuries.  Route 2 has been restricted to one lane ever since.  Yes, something had to be done. But it’s been more than inconvenient.

The problem has been with the detour route itself.  The section of Route 2 that’s been closed is maybe half a mile long.  The detour is a good five or six miles of single-lane, pothole ridden backwood country lanes where meeting an oncoming car can lead one to ask whether it’s better to hit the car or steer for the big ditch to avoid it.  No fun at all.

So if I can just hang in there for another few hours, hopefully, it’ll all be worth it.
