Salad Days

We’ve been blessed with some wonderful weather as of late, and today, I took advantage of the sunshine by digging up the dirt along a section of the back yard fence and planting some cucumber seeds.

I love cucumbers. They’re light, refreshing, and virtually free of calories. OK, so I’m not one to worry about counting my calories, but a lot of the folks who will hopefully benefit from this morning’s work care about those things. I just love to eat them, sliced on a plate with some salt and pepper, or cut up in a nice garden salad. (That Romaine I planted a few weeks ago is looking good, too!)

About the only thing left to do in the garden is pull a few weeds, keep an eye to watering, and wait to enjoy. I’ll probably do a second lettuce planting in late summer for some fall harvesting, and I still need to get the tomato plants in the ground. Piece of cake! Or should I say, bowl of salad….
