An adjunct faculty member of an award-winning online university has co-written a book that seems finally to “get it.”
Sara Orem, PhD, is co-author of Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change. Along with Jacqueline Binkert, PhD, and Ann Clancy, PhD, Dr. Orem suggests, in short, that we can catch a lot more flies with honey than we can with vinegar.
Instead of focussing on problem areas with individuals, Orem and her co-authors teach managers to look long term, toward the desired goals. They have outlined a four-step process suggesting that people and organizations flourish when they focus on human ideals, achievements, and best practices. According to the authors, recent developments in psychology and organizational development suggest this approach works best.
Orem is on the faculty at Capella University’s School of Business and Technology and has her own coaching firm.
Capella is a fully accredited online university, established in 1993. It offers graduate degree programs in business, information technology, education, human services, and psychology, and bachelor’s degree programs in business and information technology. So if you’re thinking about getting that MBA and would like to work with quality faculty like Orem, why not consider Capella University?
