A Little Spring Cleaning

When our house isn’t eating things, I think it manufactures things.

BJ and I spent the day today on two main missions: trying to find some cable clips we bought several weeks ago, and straightening up the front bedroom and office. I think the former had a lot to do with the latter, even though we had planned to tackle the clutter for quite awhile.

First, a word of explanation. The office is the first room in the house, right inside the front door. It used to be the living room, but when we moved the stairs to the basement several years ago during our bathroom remodel, we put them in that room (the only place had had, really), so it became far too small for a living room. The solution was to convert the third bedroom we were using as an office into the living room, and swap the two rooms out. Overall, it’s been a great move; the new living room is a lot quieter, and the big computer desk makes for a handy catch-all when we’re carrying stuff in from the car.

Therein lies the problem, though. You know how it goes; once we dropped stuff, we sometimes figured it could just sit there for awhile. Add in all the boxes we’ve been packing for the auction which also now live there, and well, the living room-turned-office had morphed into a big ugly closet.

Unfortunately, one of those “dropped” items was the aforementioned clips. We were going to use them today, but when we tried to find them, they were gone. Vanished into thin air — or maybe into the black hole that front room had become. Time to clean it up!

We never did find the clips (maybe the ghost ate them!), but we did get a handle on that room. It’s still full of boxes, but at least you can walk through it now. Oh, well. That was enough for one day, anyhow!
