The things you see when there’s nobody around to verify them!
I must tell you about the very strange vehicle driving behind me Saturday morning. When I first caught sight of it in my rearview mirror, I thought it was odd. It looked a lot like a 1980-something Pontiac Sunbird — you know the one — with the side-by-side square headlights. But there was something very different about this one. It looked like it was covered in oatmeal. Maple and brown sugar oatmeal. Very lumpy oatmeal.
I kept looking back, trying to figure out what was all over this car, when it drove out from under the trees and into some sunlight. At that point, I noticed chrome buttons all over the hood in a chevron pattern. What the…?
This road warrior also had those little amber lights screwed into the top between a pair of foglights, much like the top of a big rig. OK, now it’s getting really weird.
I finally decided that, instead of driving the Jeep off the road by paying more attention to what was behind me than what was in front of me, I pulled over to the right and slowed way down so the driver of this beast would pass me. It worked.
Turns out it was converted into a short-bed pickup truck and was covered from bumper to bumper with wood. Yep, beaded board covered every square inch. It was like a Woody on steroids. Even the rear window was covered, with three little portholes cut into the panel.
Certainly not my taste in modified rides, but it was well done. I’m just wondering what kind of wax the guy uses!

OMGosh, how odd! Too bad you couldn’t have gotten a picture of it.
I know! I would have gotten the camera out, but I was afraid I would wreck. Next time, I’ll get it, though!
Next time, I expect a picture.
And where did you see it? I’m going to hang around that stretch of road. You know how much I love all kinds of odd things.
I first noticed it just south of the W-P plant in Beech Bottom. When I turned onto 22 to head toward the Jefferson Community College for our gig, he continued north on 7. So I got a good, long look!
