I can barely wait.
In early July, we’ll get one of the annual payments from BJ’s retirement, and for all intents, it’s already spent.
The two big projects this year are camp wiring, which I’ve already told you all about, and repairing the soffit, fascia, gutters, and downspouts on the house.
The south side of our house takes a lot of heat from the sun, and the dinette part of our kitchen, which was added on years ago, is on that southern exposure. My theory is that whoever built the addition was pretty much clueless.
The section of the roofline where the dinette ties in sticks out about a foot, and all of those extra angles and slopes provide a great place for water to seep in and rot the soffit from the inside. It’s so bad right now that a family of starlings has moved in; they’ve built themselves quite the little condominium.
So in another couple of weeks, the birds will get their eviction notice, and we’ll get the new drainage system we so badly need. Maybe then we’ll get past having the downspouts falling off, too!
