A Happy Memory

Have you ever stayed at a Bed & Breakfast?

Here in Wheeling, we have several old Victorians that have been restored and made into B&Bs, and they’re great.  A guy I know fairly well and his girlfriend actually worked as hosts in one of them a few years ago, staying there rent free in exchange for providing a tour and fixing breakfast for the guests whenever they arrived.

Before Mom died, I hooked up with Bob and Andrea for a special evening for her and Dad.  They, along with BJ and I, were the only people in the whole house that night, and we had such a treat!

Since we had our run of the place, we checked out all the rooms, each of which was decorated beautifully with period antiques and fabrics.  We put Mom and Dad in the jacuzzi suite and took the room across the hall.

The owner had an African Grey parrot living there.  That bird was a riot!  And Andrea cooked up a feast the next morning that, even after all these years, still makes my mouth water.

Every time I drive past that place, I still smile.  That was one of the last really good memories I have of my mother; the Altzheimers took over not too long after that.

If you have a chance to do something like that with your parents, take it.  Believe me when I tell you:  It’s money well spent.
