Mom’s Emerald Ring

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but the pieces I do have are pretty special.

One in particular holds a lot of sentimental value for me.  My mother loved emeralds, and with one of my first jobs, I got her a ring with emeralds and diamonds.  She was so proud of it, even though she always scolded me for spending too much money on it.

Mom’s fingers were a little bigger than mine, though, so to wear the ring, I need to have it sized.  I know it’s stupid, but I just can’t bring myself to do it because then it would be my ring instead of hers.  So there it sits, in the box, and I don’t get any enjoyment from it at all.  Sigh.

I understand completely. I would feel the very same way if it were my mother’s ring. I wish I could say something to make it easier for you to decide what to do, but I’m at a loss. Regardless if the ring is sitting in your jewelry box or on your finger, the fact that it brought such pleasure and pride to your mother is what matters most. :)

Thanks, Leigh. So far, my plan has been to do nothing; then there’s noting to undo. But I’m thinking how upset Mom would be at the thought of nobody seeing her ring, so maybe it’s time.
