One thing about being laid up is the chance to catch up on TV shows you might not necessarily have been watching.

Such is the case with HGTV’s “Design Star.”  There was a marathon while I was in the hospital, and I had a chance to follow along from the beginning.  One episode involved a traditional-meets-Rockabilly wedding reception at a Vegas hotel.  The winning design was not what I would have selected; I would go for the top of the line at the Bellagio Hotel, myself.  But the bride and groom were happy.

Last season’s winner was David Bromstadt.  He annoys me with that little fist pump habit.  I hope whoever wins this year is more interesting on their new series.
