One major obstacle down, one to go!
Taking a sponge bath just doesn’t cut the mustard for me. Try as I might, I simply don’t feel clean and refreshed after rinsing myself off in a bucket. I need a bath. A nice, long soak in water hot enough to turn my skin red. With bubbles.
Obviously, slipping down to my chin in a bathtub is impossible with a broken pelvis, but I was able to sit on a plastic chair and take a shower. It was marvelous! Still not as good as the real thing, but definitely better than before!
What I’m really looking forward to now is getting back into the hot tub. I know several people who have hot tubs and never use them; I’m not in that category. Those jets are calling me. It’s going to be a long four months!

Sorry to hear about your pelvic problems. We created a get well message for you over at the blog.
I remember the first time I saw my stump after my hand was partially severed and later surgically removed. You would think I would have been devastated and depressed at 13 years old, but all I could think about was scratching the fuck out myself… Even now, that’s the most vivid memory I have of the whole experience. Enjoy the shower and the hot tub!
OUCH!! And to think I’ve been whining about four months! Thanks for checking in — and I hope you’re over the phantom itching. I have heard, though, that some amputees never lose those sensations.
Jim and Emma, thank you. Your e-card really made my day.
