Adding Up The Grains

I keep a few websites on my daily “click” list just because I like helping out whenever I can and I believe in the causes being promoted.  There’s one for breast cancer screenings, another for food for animal shelters, still another for literacy, and so on.

But these daily clicks don’t really take up a lot of my time.  I rush in, click the button, and rush back out again, barely noticing whatever changes the webmasters may have included.  In many ways, it’s a feel-better-about-myself chore.

Then there’s freerice.com.   This website is absolutely addictive, so unless you have some time to slip into a black hole, you might want to wait to visit.

The gist is that every correctly defined word results in 20 free grains of rice through the United Nations to help end world hunger.  Yeah, I know — 20 grains is barely a spoonful — but imagine how many bowls you can give just by nailing down those vocabulary words for fifteen minutes.  Then imagine trying to stop after only fifteen minutes!

The words are delivered based upon your responses; if you miss a few, they become more common, and if you answer correctly, you move up in level.  So no matter where you find yourself on the wordsmith  scale, you’ll be challenged and stimulated.

A dear friend told me about this website.  I’m going to have to retaliate.  Go donate some rice, but don’t blame me if your own family gets dinner a little late!

And no, this is NOT a sponsored post!
