As the Good Book says, it’s more blessed to give than to receive.
As we all run around like crazy people getting ready for the Holiday, please take a moment to remember the folks in your community who are more worried about a hot meal and a warm place to sleep than a new plasma TV. You won’t have to look very far to see how your spare change can make a huge difference.
Those red kettles from the Salvation Army bring in cash for food, energy assistance, and so much more all year. Our local office provides a weekly food distribution to about 200 families. Other churches, schools, and social groups provide even more help.
An easy way to diversify your generosity is to give the United Way. Again, in our region, member agencies (anywhere from 18 to nearly 30) undergo rigorous application procedures to receive funding. Those dollars help people in every walk of life, literally from the cradle to the grave.
If you already contribute to a charity, thank you. If you don’t, why not consider it? I can promise you that no other gift you can give will be more appreciated, or more needed. And you’ll feel the real Reason for the Season come shining through.
