Finding Counter Space

I’m pretty sure I’ve told you this before, but if I haven’t, or if you’ve forgotten, I have one of those stainless steel double decker coffee makers like you’ll generally find in restaurants.

I mention this now only because I’ve been reevaluating my use of counter space.  When BJ and I dragged out the heavy machinery for the lasagna making festival on Saturday, we were both looking at each other when it came down to figuring out where to put stuff.

It isn’t that we don’t have any counters; we do.  But we also have a big double-bowl sink,  a deep fat fryer, an oversized crock pot, a 4-piece cannister set, two knife blocks, a Kitchenaid stand mixer, a blender, a toaster oven, and of course, the coffee pot.

We use everything often, so finding someplace else to put all of this stuff seems inconvenient.  But then, so is having no open counter space.  Sigh.

I have that same problem! Plus, I have two cupboards filled with electrical appliances. One is for those I don’t use too often and could probably get rid of, the other is for those I tend to use now & again. Plus, like you, I have the coffee maker, toaster, stand mixer and ice cream maker that sit on the counter. I’d love to have those totally clean counters like they show in magazines, but somehow I don’t think that will ever happen in my house!

I have very limited counter space. I bought this corner shelve unit that had triangles that you put together with spindles between them. very cheap but was wood looking. It fit nicely in the corner of the kitchen out of the way but the food processor, george forman, toaster, coffee pot, kitchen aid, and blender all fit and off the counter they went. Course now I have it filled back up again with canisters of everything but it was a solution for a while

The problem, at least for me, is that I tend to collect as much stuff as I can fit into whatever space. So even if I DID clean out a cupboard or get a shelf unit, I would inevitably just find something else I couldn’t possibly live without!
