Another Good Group

It suddenly occurred to me that, while I’ve already told you about my Speech class and what an interesting group they are, I haven’t really said too much about my English class. Please allow me to correct this oversight.

These students are really into the class as well. It no doubt helps that several of them are “non-traditional” students, which means they’re older, more experienced, and generally a lot more complex than having a roomful of nothing but recent high school graduates.

Today, we talked at length about readers and their interaction with and responses to the writers. They came up with some really interesting perspectives, and they’re not afraid to share their opinions with 25 or 30 other people. It’s so cool that they’re not waiting for me to spoonfeed them the answers.

Displaced steelworkers and stay-at-home moms are sitting there like bookends with the 18- and 19-year olds, and each group is learning from the other. It’s going to be a fun, enriching semester. I can tell already!
