Please keep BJ’s nephew in your prayers.
JR’s son Jason is a senior in high school. He’s one of the top-rated wrestlers in his weight class in the state. This past week, he took part in a huge regional tournament and finished third. As it turns out, that was just one in a series of miracles.
Thursday night, he pinned his opponent by using a maneuver which required him to pick him up and slam him to the mat. As best we can tell, that’s when it happened. “IT” was a severe tear to his stomach lining.
He thought he had pulled a muscle or something, and he chose to tough it out. You remember how it is to be 17, don’t you? Anyway, he won four matches, all the while bleeding internally. Miracle #1.
On Saturday morning, he was in severe pain, but he was ahead on points, so he tried to play to a draw for the rest of the match that would have sent him to the championship round. Time for Miracle #2: he lost, placing third, and didn’t have to wrestle again. But while he was still bleeding, he had no idea about the extent of his injury.
That night, he got out of bed to go to the bathroom and fainted, falling and splitting open his lip. That, believe it or not, was Miracle #3, because it was what finally sent him to the hospital for stitches.
Long story short — the poor kid had lost two and a half liters of blood (about half of his total blood volume), but (Miracle #4) none of his organs was damaged from the blood loss, and the doctors were able to surgically repair the stomach lining tears. He’s still in intensive care, cut from the middle of his chest to below his belly button, but he should heal up okay. Mostly, he’s angry that the wrestling thing is officially over for him now.

Wow! Talk about miracles! That kid is VERY lucky, the outcome could have been so much worst. Sending good thoughts your way.
We know! The doc was amazed that none of his organs suffered damage. It’s still scary, though.
My son is an athlete, too. In my opinion, hockey and wrestling are the two roughest sports. I’m so happy he’s going to be okay.
Thank you, Kathryn, and thanks so much for the visit.
I agree — most folks don’t realize how dangerous it can be.
Do stop by again soon!
Oh my goodness! That is so scary and thankfully he’s going to be okay.
I read this on the WTOV site and wondered if that was BJ’s nephew. That’s scary!
Yeah, you never think something like this is ever going to happen. Fortunately, he’s going to be okay. Mom and Dad are really shaken up, though.
