I have discovered the BEST microwave sandwiches under the sun.
BJ and I went grocery shopping last night — hungry. I know, that’s never a good idea, but every once in awhile, it pays off. This was one of those times. Here’s what I found in the freezer case:
The directions say to thaw out the sandwiches in the fridge for 24 hours before heating them through in the microwave — or, you can use the defrost setting. Hey, I already told you I was hungry!
So I popped the little darlings in for a defrost-mode nuking while BJ and I worked to put away the rest of the groceries. Hearing that familiar beep, I stopped long enough to reset the microwave for three minutes on High (for two sandwiches).
One side effect of shopping before dinner is having a LOT of groceries to put away, so the sandwiches sat in the microwave for a few minutes after the timer ran down. When we actually ate them, the sandwiches were unbelieveably good.
I decided that I wanted another today for lunch, but BJ declined. So I opened one cellophane wrapper at one end and programmed High for a minute and a half. Again, following the directions on the box, I split the difference on the one to two minute guide. Big mistake.
I had no intention of waiting this time. In fact, I already had my hand on the door release button as those final few seconds ticked away. There was steam as I removed the wrapper, but that’s nothing new, and besides, I enjoy my hot food hot. I took a bite.
The barbecue sauce squirted out, hitting me on the chin, and now, I have a blister. But the sandwich was still really good! And if we ever get a Tony Roma’s franchise around here, I’m there!
