Khartoum’s Head

I think I can safely say it: I’m seriously disturbed.

There is some small defect hidden deep inside my brain that prohibits me from turning the channel any time I happen across one of the three Godfather movies. I simply must watch it all the way through.

It doesn’t matter that the movies are heavily edited for television. No worries about the time of day (or night), either. The next four hours are sucked away from me — eight if they show it back to back. Thanks a lot, A&E.

It reminds me of going to the video rental store 15+ years ago. Without fail, I would bring home Gorky Park. Granted, the dinky little neighborhood shop was limited in its selection of new-release VHS tapes, but they did have more than one title. I just can’t remember ever being interested in any of the others.

There are so many other things I could be doing: upgrading my laptop memory, folding towels, raiding the fridge, working on lesson plans, but no. Here I sit, waiting for the commercial to end so I can say “Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.”

I have never actually seen The Godfather! I really should watch it, it’s such a classic.

Just ask me! I know all the dialogue! (It IS a great movie. Number 2 is the best.)

Pacino is too yummy in those… There are classics that are meant to be watched over and over, in this house as well.

Those films are so far ahead of their time. I just love ‘em!
