Planning Our Escape

You know the old but true saying:  If you have the money, you don’t have the time, and if you have the time, you don’t have the money.

That’s been pretty much why BJ and I have not gone anywhere except camping at the lake for a vacation for several years.  This entire summer has been tied up with summer school, and now, I’m looking ahead to the fall semester and the new job.  But we’ve made a pact.  Next summer, we’re definitely going to get away and travel to — somewhere.

The issue is where.

Both of us have so many places we would like to go, so narrowing the list to just one destination will be really hard.  At first, we were looking into Orlando vacations;  a good friend lives there, and neither of us has ever been to Disney World.  But between BJ’s still-sore shoulder, my absolute dread of roller coasters in general, and the fact that neither of us is a big fan of high heat and humidity, I think we’re going to look elsewhere.  That’s where you guys come in.

Can you help us out with a few suggestions?  I’m open to flying, cruising, train rides, whatever.  I would love to take a tour of Europe, but we won’t be able to save up THAT much moolah.  So if you know of something off the beaten path that would be fun and affordable for a couple of broken down bodies for about a week, I’m all ears.  Thanks!

    Hi Tammie,

Just my silly input but nonetheless I recommend Costa Rica.
It is beautiful and not very expensive. There are lots of
packages via the internet. There’s lots to do, i.e. zip lines,
beaches, shopping, lots of good food, fishing, etc. Just an
idea, I really enjoyed being there and there are lots of
“Americans” to talk to but the locals understand English
    really well.

    Love ya,

    Debbie

Depends what you like to do? If you like to crash on a beach and read a book, then go some place like Barbados - gorgeous beach and people are very friendly.

If you like to visit, Europe is the place to go, or a place like here, where you get a bit of the French Culture, the language and it’s not that far from where you’re at. In the summer we have a lot of festivals (Just for Laughs, Jazz, etc), our cuisine is very good and I don’t think we’re that bad (the Fench-Canadian). You can drive to Ottawa for a few days, go to Quebec City also, there’s lots of different places to see around town, we also have La Ronde which is an attraction park. There’s lot of shopping to be done AND I’m here! LOL

I’ve been to Greece in 2004 and loved it. We’re going back to Hawaii (our 5th time) this fall. We love these islands and their people, plus we have good friends there.

TOo many place to see and too little time & money!

To me, a good vacation can be had by going anyplace you’ve never been before and exploring something new. It doesn’t have to be somewhere far way (although it can be). Doing something new or going somewhere new is always an adventure. Whatever you decide, have fun! :-D

It’s funny how some people who live in Buffalo have never seen Niagra Falls, for example. We want to go somewhere with lots of interesting and unusual things to do, but neither of us really likes big crowds and tourist traps. Between now and next summer, we’ll probably change our minds 20 or 30 times.
