So far, so good.
I’m almost through my first week of the new semester, and we’re making good progress with all of my projects — except one.
Because of all sorts of start-up-the-year meetings (and because my editor is working as an intern this week at the Democratic National Convention in Denver), I haven’t been able to nail down the assignments yet for the newspaper. Everyone understands, and nobody is putting any undue pressure on me to get that first edition out, but I’m still being antsy about it. There’s so much to report (the first home football game on our brand new field is this Saturday, enrollment is way up, and we’re about to become a university, for starters), and the kids will feel a lot better once they see those papers being read.
Some of my seniors are already beginning their post-graduation job searches, and having those bylines to add to their portfolios will be nice, too. They’re so eager to learn. It’s going to be a good semester.
