The new job is awesome.

It’s weird.  I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop, but so far, things couldn’t be better.

One of the big things I have to do is restore some respect for our student-run campus newspaper.  Over the past three years, there have been some serious issues,  and more than a few folks have told me they feared it would fold.

Well, with only two weeks in, we have our complete staff in place, and several other students are working for free or for class credit only.  The news room has been cleaned, a very big deal since we knocked out some walls this summer.  Desks and computers are set up, and software training has begun.  We have several Macs and a Sony Vaio, all of which are playing nicely together.  Across the board, the students are really excited, and like me, they’re eagerly anticipating the first weekly issue, which is set to hit the newsstands on Sept. 17.

I’m so proud of these kids.  They have really showed a lot of moxie and even more skill.  Oh, sure, it’s always possible that something bad can happen, but the ambitious schedule we’ve put into place seems much more motivator than intimidator.  I’ll let you know how it goes.
