I’m in the market for some better TV.
BJ and I have just about had it with our cable provider. One of the channels we like to watch regularly for weather reports near the camp has been available for only a single day in the past six months or so. (That’s not to mention the availability of totally different pro and college football games we’ve been consistently missing.)
Anyway, we’re thinking long and hard about switching to satellite.
Do any of you have satellite service? How do you get local stations? Which service provider do you consider the best buy? Why?
I hate deserting a locally owned company, but the rates keep going up as the quality of service keeps going down. What do you think we should do?

The lesser of two evils, huh? I’ve had every cable / satellite company under the sun. The pricing and availibity in your area is probably very different then mine (near Chicago), but my experiences with satellite are probably applicable. When I had satellite, the local channels were included just like cable. Reception was usually okay, in light rain there was no difference, heavy rain rain would give a bit of a static, and during huge thunderstorms (think tornado weather) it would cut out intermittently. I can’t ever recall a time it dropped out completely, just drops in service. Good luck with your search, I hope you find a TV provider that with good service that isn’t COMPLETELY out for you wallet.
Thanks for your input. Reception in bad weather was something I hadn’t thought about.
If local channels were included here, I’d switch in a heartbeat, but they’re not. Oh, well.
We’ve had DirecTV for about 9 years now. We really have liked them, but their rates are pricing us out. I’m seriously thinking of going back to cable again. It can be such a pain in the behind to change, so I keep
Sorry, our dog decided to step on my lap just as I was typing. Unfortunately, she stepped on the laptop that was ON my lap!
As I was trying to say, I keep thinking about it, but I think I really do need to make a change, for budget purposes. Good luck with what ever you decide.
Oh, that’s funny. You tell Plinko I said “GOOD DOG!!” for posting a greeting to her auntie Tammie! And thanks for the heads up as to prices.
