I know — anyone who hangs around me or who’s been a loyal reader already knows this — but this has been a fabulous weekend.
First, my beloved Mountaineers gave me a lovely Christmas present (even better than silk ties for a businessman!) with their win over the North Carolina Tarheels Saturday, 31-30, in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. My nerves were pretty much shot by the time it ended, but I was grinning ear to ear. Congrats, too, to Pat White, the first college football quarterback EVER to start and win four bowl games. We’ll miss you, Number Five.
Then there was NFL Sunday. My Eagles laid a giant egg last week when they lost to Washington, so I figured making the playoffs was out of the question. Still, as a Philly fan, I’m contractually obligated to hate the Dallas Cowboys, and it was our chance to keep them home for the New Year, too.
The season finale was a late afternoon game, and by the time it started, the unthinkable had happened. The Bears lost — no big surprise there — but so too did Tampa Bay! To the Raiders! At HOME!!! Are you kidding me!?
Not only did the Birds send the Cowchips packing, but they also have a date next Sunday in Minnesota! Happy New Year! Go Eagles!!!

As someone who lives in the Dallas area, I am not a fan of the Cowboys. I would like to thank the Eagles for deflating the egos of the Cowboys! I have to tell you, things are awfully quiet here in Dallas now. It will certainly be interesting to see what sort of “changes” Wade Phillips makes, or maybe he’ll be gone too. 12 years and no playoff games is a long time in the NFL.
Oh, Lynne, thank you! I’ll never understand why that bunch of overrated miscreants really consider themselves “America’s Team.” Jerry Jones needs to fire himself! No, wait — I enjoy seeing the Cowboys implode every year.
Tam,
Well I lost your email address again when my computer crashed,
but just thought you would like to know, mom has a new “little
man”. His name is Beau and he is kin to Harley. She decided
she needed someone to keep her company. He is really cute, but
not very social yet as he was raised by a breeder so he didn’t have
much personal contact with people, only at feeding time.
Nevertheless, mom seems really happy with him, I think he will
good for her. Love ya lots, Happy New Year!
Debbie
Oh, good lord.
